Vintage Boucheroute Hand Knotted Rug

The word “Boucherouite” originates from Moroccan-Arabic, meaning “torn and reused clothing.” In the 1960s, as wool and cotton became harder to find due to the decline of nomadic life, Berber women started weaving rugs from leftover textiles and old garments. These “rag rugs” were born from necessity but transformed into vibrant, artistic expressions. Celebrated for their bold colors, playful patterns, and bohemian charm, Boucherouite rugs are unique pieces that embody creativity and resourcefulness.
