The Reya rug is named after an alias chosen by a Furnishing Futures beneficiary. Every design is paired with a personal reflection from its namesake, sharing how receiving a healing home has helped restore confidence, safety and dignity…
“When I was first offered a new permanent home I was really excited but nervous. When I came for the first viewing and signed the tenancy - the housing officer asked me why I am so worried. I was worried about how I was going to do everything myself - physically and financially.
The support from Furnishing Futures was life changing. The empty flat without any flooring was making me more ill - it was a really hard time for us. My child every night now comes home from school and he’s so happy - before he would come home and not want to be there.
My child was comparing it to other peoples’ houses, saying they have things but I have nowhere to sleep and play. He didn’t like to be in his room and just wanted to go to other peoples’ houses. He was not settled but now he is very happy.
I hardly leave now, I am happy, each room is very refreshing and everything I wanted. It has really improved my mood.
The furnished home now gives me space to think about new skills or education. I can participate in women’s groups and group therapy, talking about this positive experience.
I didn’t know how they were able to do it but in reality it was amazing, I was so comfortable to share things, they have changed my life. I am extremely grateful we have been introduced. I would love to get more involved and help make a difference too.”
