The Ingrid rug is named after an alias chosen by a Furnishing Futures beneficiary. Every design is paired with a personal reflection from its namesake, sharing how receiving a healing home has helped restore confidence, safety and dignity…
“Before I knew Furnishing Futures was going to do my house I was lost because I knew that this house was going to be unfurnished. Lots of things going through my mind, like I’m stuck, how am I going to do it, I have my child. I was lost, but when I knew that you guys were going to do the house, I felt like I’m in a dream. I feel like I am dreaming.
I was thinking, if this house wasn’t done by Furnishing Futures, it would take me at least 3 or 4 years, I would have to wait until my daughter goes to school so that I can work, then I start saving up, then I do the work on the house. It would have been a long process…
I was really worried about how my daughter is going to get used to the house, because when we went to the refuge, she was really mad and crying all the time. When we moved she felt like she had been living in the house for years and years. She keeps on telling me “mama people have done my house very nice” and “I want to see them again”. I can see it and I can feel it, that it really makes a big difference on her mental health.
People don’t need to go to the doctor, they don’t need to go to hospitals, they just need people like you to help them and to make them survive and to feel like they are living.”
