Harvey
Shame Studios is proud to present our PRIDE collection, donating 100% of profits to The Human Dignity Trust, an incredible charity that uses the courts to overturn laws that criminalise people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. Inspired by, and in celebration of, queer joy and history, each rug takes its namesake from a renowned queer figure and icon.
As one of 3 limited-edition rainbow palette rugs, this piece takes its name from the renowned gay activist, and America’s first openly gay politician, Harvey Milk. After years of campaigning for improved queer political rights in California, he was elected to San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors in 1977. During his short time as supervisor, Harvey helped pass a gay rights bill for the city of San Francisco that prohibited anti-gay discrimination in housing and employment.
Tragically, Harvey and the city’s mayor, George Moscone, were assassinated by a conservative former city supervisor in 1978.
In such, we dedicate. Harvey is bold and beautiful, unafraid to take up space. A joyful addition and instant breath of fresh air in any room, Harvey is a flat-weave rug made from recycled cotton. Handwoven in Varanasi, the spiritual heartland of India, the undulating scalloped edges are inspired by the famed Ettore Sottsass Mirror and require a high degree of craftsmanship.
Harvey is contemporary, yet timeless. Beautiful, inspiring, unapologetically queer.
